BELIZE: CI's partner ICFJ launches the Biodiversity Reporting Award
Open to all Belize media, print, radio and television, for stories on environmental or biological conservation issues published or broadcast between Oct. 1, 2007 and Mar. 31, 2008.
First prize: $750, a plaque and certificate of recognition;
Second Prize: $400, a plaque and certificate of recognition;
Third Prize: $200, a plaque and certificate of recognition.
Radio and television stories may be submitted on compact disks accompanied by written scripts. Print entries should be delivered as electronic files. Each applicant may submit no more than 2 stories, each no more than 1,000 words (print) or 10 minutes (radio or TV).
Belize winners will be honored at an award ceremony in late May, 2008;
An announcement of the winners and the best stories from Belize will be posted on the Web site of the Conservation International Biodiversity Reporting Awards, together with winners from countries in Latin America, Africa and the Caucasus region.

The contest and journalism training on this topic are administered by the International Center for Journalists, Washington, D.C., USA, in cooperation with Conservation International and the Center for Environmental Communications at Loyola University New Orleans. These activities to encourage better coverage of the conservation of biodiversity in the region are sponsored by the Oak Foundation and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Participants in ICFJ’s workshops in Belize will be welcomed in the contest. The second workshop was held on Aug. 10-12, 2007 at Chaa Creek, Belize. The first took place in 2006 at St. George’s Caye.
